You Can Mentor

We started a mentoring podcast to equip and encourage mentors this past year. You can listen at youcanmentor.com or search “You Can Mentor” where you podcast.

Based off of downloads, if 20% of every downloaded episode was listened to, a conservative estimate, we will have provided over 1400 hours of training for mentors this year. That’s 58 days of straight training. Come on!

Here’s a quick story from the podcast. Last year a cop detained two young boys for stealing. When he got back in his police car, he was listening to one of our episodes and decided that rather than arresting them, he would reach out to their families to hear their backstory. The police officer told me that had he not have been listening to our podcast, those boys would have been locked up. He met one of their moms and the others grandma. No dads in the picture. And after hearing their story, he started to view his job as an officer differently. He started to look at boys getting into trouble with more compassion. He started looking for ways to help.

This cop has recently decided to switch positions and serve as an officer at a School in Richardson. He said he wants to mentor boys and be a positive influence in their life at the school. He asked me for a You Can Mentor flag and merch for his office.

This is how societal change happens. One person at a time, catching God’s heart for their neighbors.
