We are who we are because of those who have invested in our lives.

While some children and youth have a network of people investing in their lives, others have a relational deficit. We have seen the impact of a lack of father-figures in the lives of young boys in Lake Highlands, and we believe that every boy needs a mentor who can show them how to become a Man of God.

WHAT MENTORS DO

SHOW UP.

Showing up is the most important thing you can do as a mentor. How do you build any successful relationship? You spend time with that person. You learn new things about them and you experience life with them. You make them feel important. You make them feel valued. You make them feel like you matter. And you do that by showing up.

BUILD UP.

Our desire is for our mentors to speak truth into the lives of our Forerunners. We want our mentors to encourage our Forerunners with every word that comes out of their mouth. Our words matter. Our tone matters. Our facial expressions and body language matter. We want our Forerunners to know that their mentors are for them, no matter what.

SHARE JESUS.

As a mentor, you cannot give away what you don’t have. More than anything, we want our Forerunners to love Jesus Christ with all of their hearts. They will learn how to do that by emulating you. We are not here to produce good men. We are here to produce followers of Christ.

TIME COMMITMENT

ONBOARDING:

4 HOURS

All of our mentors are required to complete at least 4 hours of training before being matched with a mentee. This training includes a 1/1 interview with a mentor coordinator, a MinistrySafe sexual abuse training, a mentor training (these take place 1x a month), and completion of reading the mentor handbook.

MENTORING:

2-4 Hrs / month

We expect our mentors to initiate bi-weekly face-to-face hang outs with their mentees. These can take place during our programs that the Forerunners may be enrolled in, as well as external events and activities.

EVENTS:

AT LEAST 1 / SEMESTER

We ask for our mentors to come be a part of these events, not only so we can appreciate you, but also to build connections with others in the organization.

ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES:

YOUR DISCRETION

  • In-between the bi-weekly connections we encourage you to reach out to your mentee and mentee’s family as you see fit.

  • Occasionally there will be mentor outings that pop up on the calendar (ex. fishing trips) and we encourage you to attend these as one of your bi-weekly connections for the month!
