An Update (Four Actually)

Friend,

We have some notable updates and a profound sense of gratitude to share with you:

Left: Moving to ONE Church
Center: Boys interviewed on WFAA regarding recent break-in
Right: Breakfast with teachers at Merriman Park Elementary to promote Forerunner

  1. First of all, thank you for your prayers and financial support following the recent vandalism and robbery of our offices.  You exceeded our financial goal and have put wind in our sails. We are beginning to replace the critical gear stolen, and learning to live without some things. The emails, phone calls, and notes of encouragement are so appreciated. We love you all.

  2. Some BIG NEWS.  We are excited to announce our expansion to serve three new schools this year! Moss Haven Elementary and Merriman Park Elementary will be hosting after school programs on site in a few weeks.  In addition, we are adding Thurgood Marshall Elementary to our pickup route for our program hosted at ONE Church.  Our goal is to serve 30 new boys from these schools. Jose Vega (MHE), Stacey Marx (MPE), and Jerald Wilson (TME) have all expressed their excitement to partner in serving boys in our community - please thank them for us when you see them. And special thanks to Grant Henson, Ruth Wetherington, Mike Congrove, and many others who have made connections with these schools possible. Pray for all of us and the boys and moms we will serve from 10 schools in Lake Highlands this year!  If you would like to refer us to families at these schools (beneficiaries or volunteers), please reply to this email and let us know. We are also hiring! Every referral helps to fill our part-time coaching staff at our now four after school program sites.

  3. We have moved.  Our offices and programs are back at ONE Church at the corner of McCree Rd and Ferndale.  We are grateful to the staff of Highland Oaks Church of Christ - they truly went above and beyond in serving us the last two years. We would also like to thank Shoreline City Church for allowing us time to stay in the former Highland Oaks building while they renovated for their move this fall.  Shout out to Brad Fuller and a host of his USI co-workers who came and made our move to ONE Church so smooth. And finally, a big thank you to Pastor Ying and the elders at ONE Church who have graciously invited us back. You will see our vans parked at 10110 McCree Rd. - pray for us when you see them!

  4. Last but not least.  Six weeks from now will be North Texas Giving Day (September 23). Our focus that day will be on the 30 new boys who will join us at our new program locations on the westside of Lake Highlands. Our operational support (coaches, vans, recruiting mentors, summer camp, materials and supplies, site leads) for each boy is about $6,000 per year.  Our hope is that on that day we can make a significant dent in that cost. Please consider and pray about your role in being a part of this goal.

"Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow."
Isaiah 1:17

Thank you for your love and support. You are truly the hands and feet of Jesus.
