Love Thy Neighbor
We want to be a blessing. That’s our aim. We want to be the hands and feet of Jesus to every person we come in contact with. That’s why we come to work every day. We exist to love our neighbor.
But if we’re really being honest, we don’t entirely know what it is we’re doing.
It’s a lot like parenting in a sense. You can call yourself an ‘expert parent’ all day long, but no one has ever perfected parenting. You just guess-and-test your way through it, do the best you can, and hope that your child turns out to be a well-rounded human being.
Forerunner does its best to create a safe environment where relationships can be built on the person of Jesus Christ. Our staff loves our moms and our boys. They love them well. We try our best. What I mean when I say we try our best is that our staff works themselves silly to be Jesus to our families. We shower our families with kindness and grace and love. We do everything we can to be a blessing. We re-present the person of Jesus to every person we meet.
But who really knows if it’ll work.
That’s why encouraging stories like the one we heard last week at Mom’s Night are so incredible. We have a mom named Lucero, we call her Luci, who has a spirited first-grade son. Last year, her son was having some academic and behavioral issues at school. She knew that it was because of the lack of father figure in his life. In an effort to give her son a positive male role model, she considered moving back to Mexico to be closer to her father. One night, out of desperation, she cried out to the Lord for help. The next day, the school counselor told her about Forerunner.
Her son has made major strides in all areas of life because of the love and attention her family receives from our Forerunner staff.
It’s working. Luci said so.
As she told this story, tears of joy streamed down her face. In her story, I see Jesus. I see hope, love, and relationship. Her son is blessed because of Forerunner. Luci experiences Jesus through our staff. Our program loves our neighbor well.
And we have you to thank for that. Thanks for the support, prayers, and connections. We couldn’t be the hands and feet of Jesus in our community without you.
Here’s to more!
