Where every mom has a place at the table.
For the past two years, God has used the children at Forerunner Mentoring to change my life. Their love has healed wounds, their joy has restored areas of brokenness, and their laughter has sparked passion and resilience. Being a coach in our after school program for a couple years, they showed me the heart of Jesus and it has helped to shape me into who I am today.
Now, I have the honor of pouring all that back into their moms in our Families Ministry. To give back to them what their sons have all given me. Knowing what an honor it is to love their mothers, I already knew God would move big in the Families Ministry this year.
We have had three events so far that have consisted of even more memories and friendships built to count. We have shared meals, laughed, worshiped, cried, prayed, made wreaths, played games, and sat in God's presence while I shared my testimony and why I am here. I can't express enough the gratitude, respect, and love I have for each mom and caregiver that we get to know. I have seen moms grow closer to our volunteers, new moms experience things they never have before, moms open up and mesh into a place where they are comfortable and can be themselves, returning moms lead conversations and groups with humility and grace, and moms who have gotten to share their story and what God has done and continues to do through being at Forerunner. My longing is to watch each mom fulfill their potential while inviting God into their womanhood, motherhood, and sisterhood. I have seen this already in a moment where a mom expressed she hasn't found any friends or support until she started attending our events. I also had a mom express that in the midst of all the chaos going on in her life, she makes sure she attends the Ladies' Nights because that's the one thing that keeps her going. Moms have opened up by sending their prayer requests because they know that there is a team championing them every day.
Our Families Ministry is a place where our moms can feel safe, find community, feel supported, escape from the busyness of their lives for a moment, grow in their intimacy with Jesus, and have fun. There is a place for each of them in my heart and I’m looking forward to the rest of the year.
