2020 Staff Training

I wish you could see what happens day to day at Forerunner Mentoring. There are texts and emails and notes and words shared that I know Jesus is asking his angels to print out to frame up in his study in heaven.

Now believe me, I don’t say that to mean it’s always glamorous. Our Instagram page is just as much a highlight reel as any hipster parent these days. For every kid’s smile we post, there is a moment of discipline. For every encouraging thing our boys say when they realize how much they are loved, there’s an outburst of anger because their Bey-blade exploded. Our staff have buttons and they get pushed like any other person. It’s the year of virtual learning. There are simply more opportunities for patience to run out.

To work with children you have to keep the vision in front of you at all times. Because every day matters. How we respond to every kid matters. Putting on the armor of God as we walk into our after school program will determine whether we show up to wage war on behalf of our kid’s or to wage war against them.

Because of this, time with God is one of our greatest priorities. We can’t model relationship with God without being with Him. That’s why our staff training these past two weeks has looked more like a revival service than a powerpoint presentation.

We’ve sought God in worship and made time to pray for our boys by name.
We’ve prayed into every portion of our program, from van safety to recess.
We’ve raised our voices in worship and declared God’s promises over boys in Lake Highlands.
We’ve incorporated fasting into our staff rhythm.
We’ve identified eight key areas to share the gospel with our boys during program.
We’ve grown in unity by sharing how Jesus changed our lives.
We’ve called out each other’s gifts that will enable us to best serve our boys.

The devil has been playing all of his cards as of lately. And I’m sure he has a dozen things up his sleeves for this fall. But if he decides to prowl around at Forerunner, he’s in for a rude awakening. He’ll find a staff with feet set and shields up around our boys. We won’t back down from a fight.

They say revival happens when a few people resolve in their hearts to live in it prematurely. A people who will be forerunners for others. Forerunners who fan the flame of their devotion to Jesus till it starts a fire in those around them. Lord, we’re in.
